Everyone at SOS Group is very proud to be helping Feeding Families, a charity supporting people across the North East who are facing food poverty.
Based in Blaydon, Feeding Families works with community partner organisations, including councils, schools, and other charities, to provide resources for people unable to access other routes of support.
They supply tailored food boxes, including ‘low cook’ and ‘no cook’ options, for people referred for help, and support from Feeding Families is designed to ‘bridge the gap’ for people who find themselves in a difficult situation and with nowhere else to turn.
Steve Sheard began volunteering for Feeding Families in 2020 and is now Head of Operations at the charity.
He says: “Feeding Families is not just a charity, it’s a lifeline for those who need it most here in the North East. With a dedicated team and the support of partners like SOS, we can make a huge impact on the community and ensure that no family goes without. Together, we can do the best we can for those in need.”
Currently supplying more than 2,000 emergency food boxes a month, demand for help has never been higher and, at Christmas, the charity matched local families in need to families that could provide help.
Across the region, over 11,000 families were supported over the festive period and SOS Group Director, Andrew Skelton, helped by packing and driving a company van to deliver boxes between Blaydon and Fishburn.
Andrew says: “It’s a privilege to help Feeding Families in any capacity. The work they’re doing is supporting people who are at their lowest ebb and providing vital help when it’s most needed.
“SOS Group has also donated a multi-function device for the Feeding Families office and we’re providing technical assistance to support the staff and volunteers at the charity. We’re very happy to help and so glad to hear it’s making a positive difference for their team.”
